Maintenance & Servicing

Extinguishers should be routinely inspected by the user at not less than quarterly and preferably monthly intervals to make sure that appliances are in their proper position and have not been accidentally or otherwise discharged or lost pressure. Most extinguishers are fitted with an integral pressure guage for this purpose.

The user should replace extinguishers not fit for use by serviceable extinguishers. Annual inspection, service and test discharging should be carried out by a competent person and a record kept of the maintenance schedule for each extinguisher. Fire and Safety centre provide a maintenance label with each extinguisher for this purpose. Ideally a maintenance log book should also be kept detailing the service history of all fire safety equipment on the premises

The requirement to provide fire-fighting equipment in buildings is embodied within the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires that where necessary:

"a) The premises are, to the extent that it is appropriate, equipped with appropriate fire fighting equipment and

b) Any non-automatic fire-fighting equipment so provided is easily accessible, simple to use and indicated by signs."

The UK servicing standard BS 5306 Part 3 puts the onus on the user (i.e. the Company) to use a competent person and that extinguishers should be serviced to this Standard and the manufacturers recommended pressure ratings.

Fire and Safety Centre supply product throughout the UK and to ensure our customers have access to a competent Service and Maintenance engineer our policy of providing this service through customer appointed locally based specialists ensures the most cost effective customer service. We recommend FIA, FETA BAFE BFC or IFEDA Accredited professional fire extinguisher service organisations.

Purchasing a new extinguisher is not a guarantee that the equipment is in perfect working order. With our free pre delivery inspection Fire and Safety Centre provides a valuable safeguard should a fire emergency occur and ensures your installation is compliant with current legislation at the point of initial installation.
