New Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors added to range

26th March 2008

The range of detectors and fire safety alarms available from Fire and Safety Centre has been extended with the introduction of two new products.

The Carbon Monoxide detection "Dots" are a simple, effective and low cost solution to detecting the presence of lethal Carbon Monoxide which is both odourless and invisible. The self adhesive "Dots" can be fixed close to fossil fuel burning appliances and will turn black when exposed to Carbon Monoxide providing a visual warning of the danger. Each "Dot" provides up to a year of protection.

They are also useful for providing protection in boats , caravans and holiday premises which have gas, oil or solid fuel heating systems and boilers.

Another addition to the range is an Optical Smoke Alarm to complement our Ion technology unit. Optical technology is more effective at detecting smouldering fires, (such as occur in upholstery and foam filled furniture and overheating electrical wiring) more quickly than Ionization based alarms which react more quickly to flaming fires. The new product is independently powered by a 9 Volt battery and is straightforward to install and maintain. Kitemarked  to BS5446 Part 1 the unit comes with a 5 year manufacturers guarantee.

A combination of Ionisation and Optical alarms provide optimum protection. Optical Alarms are particularly useful in Kitchens to avoid nuisance alarms and in households with Smokers.

More information on the use of smoke detectors and alarms in the home can be found in the Advice Centre on the Fire and Safety Website.
