Fire Extinguishers
9 litre water stored pressure fire extinguisher Featured Product

A Water fire extinguisher is used for Class A fires involving combustible solids, typically wood, paper, plastics, coal and fabrics. They should not be used on electrical or liquid fires. Water fire extinguishers are best teamed with a Dry Powder or Carbon Dioxide extinguisher in the office or workplace to cater for other fire risks.

Foam Extinguishers offer an alternative to water and in comparison are lighter in weight making them easier to use.

Water fire extinguisher should be used for Class A fires involving solids only, such as wood, paper, plastics and fabrics. They are not suitable for use on Class B liquid fires e.g. paraffin, petrol, oil based fires, chip pan fires or on electrical fires including where electricity is involved. Water fire extinguisher are colour coded with a red label (not to be confused with the normal red paint finish on the main body of the extinguisher). The fire extinguisher works by water under pressure cooling burning material.

Using a water fire extinguisher:

  1. Pull out the retaining pin (this will snap the plastic "pull tight" security seal) and squeeze the grip to discharge the extinguisher.
  2. Direct the jet at the base of the flame and keep it moving across the area of the fire.
  3. Seek out any hot spots after the main fire is extinguished.
  4. A fire spreading vertically should be attacked at its lowest point and followed upwards.
