Listening to the weather forecast last night I was aware that we might have snow falling at the time we would be travelling to work the following morning. It made me think about what precautions I should take to deal with any hazards the snow might present.
Fire risk assessments are much the same. You assess the potential hazards and try to reduce the risk. One factor in reducing any risk is to ensure you have the right fire equipment in place and that it is maintained regularly.
Fire extinguishers for example fall into this category. British Standard Code of Practice BS 5306 Part 3 recommends that your fire extinguishers are serviced at least annually to ensure that they will always function in an emergency.
As it turned out my journey was not as hazardous as I thought it might be and by setting off in good time and driving according to the conditions I reduced the potential risks I might have been presented with.
It’s a pity some of my fellow drivers did not do the same. How many times have you been victim to a driver not driving to the conditions and causing a hazard to everyone else?
