Wet chemical fire extinguishers employ a pressurised solution of alkali salts in water and are used for Class F cooking oil or fat fires. Its principal application is in kitchens and food processing plants. In domestic kitchens a fire blanket is a reliable alternative when dealing with chip fat fires. They can also be used effectively on Class A and Class B fires
How to use a wet chemical fire extinguishers:
- Turn off the source of heat if safe to do so.
- Hold the lance at arm’s length, well above the fire with its nozzle at least 1 Metre away from the fire.
- Holding the lance still, discharge so that the spraying wet chemical falls gently onto the surface of the fire.
- Even if the fire appears to go out quickly, discharge the entire contents of the extinguisher.
